Reports of Fazlullah being injured: Rehman Malik

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Rehman Malik Monday said security forces have put a cordon around chief of Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat Fazlullah about whom, he said, reports are being received of his being injured.It may be mentioned here that Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had earlier said that the most of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Swat leadership had been crushed. He also said that silence is being maintained regarding Fazlullah but information about his fate will be gathered and made public.

Military operation in Swat enters ‘final phase’: ISPR


RAWALPINDI: Security forces are in the final phase of eliminating terrorists’ hideouts and camps in Swat, Director General ISPR Maj. Gen. Athar Abbas said Monday.Talking to newsmen, the DG ISPR said in the north Bhia valley the last stronghold of terrorists has been fully secured and in the west, area of Shamozai is being cleared. Meanwhile search operations are continuing in the secured areas to ensure that areas are safe for the return of IDPs, he added.On the occasion, he displayed a map which, he said, shows the overall state of secured areas.He said so far 1592 terrorists have been killed and showed photographs of a few for media’s information. He said during search and cordon operation security forces neutralized a number of IEDs and destroyed number of small and big tunnels, while 22 terrorists were killed and 5 were apprehended in Malakand. Fourteen terrorists were killed by security forces during link up operation at Shamozai Bridge, while 8 large size IEDs planted by terrorists were also neutralized.Security forces successfully secured Biha valley, and also cleared Bartana South of Chuprial.Three small size tunnels were destroyed at Loi Namal.Local Jirga handed over a terrorist to security forces at Behrain, while 4 other terrorists were apprehended at Wanai Bridge, Shalkosar, Bashkhela and Drushkhela.Yesterday in Upper Dir, during an encounter of Lashkar with terrorists, 8 terrorists were killed, 1 got injured and 1 ran away. Security forces are carrying out search and cordon operation in Charmang Tehsil of Bajur to flush out the terrorists from the area.

Security forces pound militants’ hideouts in Malakand

SWAT: Security forces destroyed two hideouts of militants during ongoing operation in Malakand Division.According to sources, two dens of militants were destroyed during security forces action in Panna Kot area of Upper Dir whereas national lashkar exchanged fire overnight. However, no causality was reported.Forces shelled militants’ positions in Totano Bandai, Swegalai, Zora in tehsil Kabal and Shamozai area in tehsil Bari Kot. No curfew relaxation given in district Swat whereas Dir media center announced curfew break in tehsil Adenzai and Maidan till 8:00 pm.

Four terrorists killed in last 24 hours: ISPR Friday, June 19, 2009

RAWALPINDI: The security forces killed at least four terrorists and two others were apprehended, while a soldier was injured in Malakand and Buner during last 24 hours of operation.

According to a press release issued by Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Afzal Khan Lala alongwith his family have reached Durshkhela in Swat, his home town. Security forces secured Akhun Kalle and established a check post at Chungai area of Swat. During exchange of fire with terrorists, a soldier was injured.

The security forces commenced clearance operation in Swat areas around Zara Khela, Khawazakhela, Matta and recovered three 12 bore rifles.

Security forces arrested two terrorists from Khawazakhela and Karaora including wanted terrorist Mola khan. Another nine IDP families comprising 25 members moved back to Kalam.Security forces carried out search operation at Sar Qila in Buner. During exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, four terrorists were killed.

Security forces successfully secured Mohmand Gate, Nawapass, Ghungat, Kuz and Chamarkand. During clearance operation, two Markaz were destroyed, which were being used for terrorists training, 20 shells of 75 MM Recoilless Rifles were also recovered. The security forces continued the relief activities for IDPs and Restoration of Services in the troubled areas.

As many as 31 IDPs Camps are being managed by the Army, which is 79 percent of total IDPs.The forces personnel started repair work on 66 KVA transmission line from Chakdara to Buner. Mingora telephone exchange is partially restored. The repair work on Sui Gas restoration is in progress.

Forces kill 34 terrorists in last 24 hours: ISPR


RAWALPINDI: The security forces killed at least 34 terrorists and apprehended seven others, while 5 soldiers were injured in Malakand during the last 24 hours. According to a press release issued by ) Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Security forces carried out clearance operation around Mingora and recovered 15 rifles, while 5 suspected terrorists were also apprehended including Mohtamum Madrassa Fiaz during search operation at Shahpur. Security forces successfully secured area around Bridge 2, Kabbal and Kotlai. During exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, 12 terrorists were killed while 5 soldiers were injured.During consolidation operation at Tutan Banda area of Swat, six terrorists were killed. Security forces commenced clearance operation of Shamozai area. During encounter, ten terrorists were killed. Security forces apprehended two suspected terrorists at Dir areas of Shewa and also recovered a Light Machine Gun, 60 rounds, a TT Pistol and a Binocular.Security forces conducted search operation at Nimazgai area of Upper Dir, during exchange of fire between terrorists and security forces, at least six terrorists were killed. Also the forces continued the relief activities in the troubled areas. So far, Army has distributed 4,517 tons rations including relief items collected from all Corps Headquarters, Civilians and NGOs amongst the IDPs of Malakand.As many as 21,587 cash cards amounting to Rs. 539.675 million have been distributed among the IDPs. A new camp for IDPs named "FAMEELO" is being established at Jalozai.

Operation Rah-e-Rast launched to bring astray people on track: COAS


ISLAMABAD: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani said we do not need foreign advice about the ongoing operation ‘Rah-e-Rast’ which is launched to bring the astray people on the right track (Rah-e-Rast).Talking to media, army chief said no one could understand our country better than us and the best possible result could be evolve in the present situation for long term betterment. There is a difference between conventional war and present war. In the ongoing war, it is difficult to distinguish friends and enemies. General Kayani said this is not the war of Islam and Baitullah Mahsud and Fazllulah are not religious scholars. Pakistan was created in the name of Islam, its base is Islam and it would remain exist. Our sacrifices could be successful if Malakand affectees return back to their homes.Air Chief Rao Qamar Suleman at this occasion said enemies are targeting our children, elders and scholars. The extremists are trying to impose their philosophy on the country. Pakistan Air Force’s performance is exemplary in war against extremism.

Long drawn-out Swat operation to prove disadvantageous: Amir Muqam

ISLAMABAD: President Pakistan Muslim League-Q NWFP, Amir Muqam Sunday said dragging the ongoing operation in Malakand Division would be in clash with the country’s interest.Addressing a press conference along with Swat Nazim Jamal Nasir and MPA Shangla Muhammad Zahir Shah, he demanded of the government not to delay the process of IDPs return to Mingora and Saido Sharif which is scheduled to start from June 17.He also demanded that these IDPs be given Rs100,000 each and food provisions for three months.Amir Muqam said the Rs50 billion announced in the budget for IDPs be increased to Rs100 billion.

31 terrorists killed in army operation: ISPR

RAWALPINDI: Thirty-one terrorists including few foreigners were killed in Malakand, Bannu and South Wazirastan Agency and 50 were injured during last 24 hours. One Security forces personnel embraced Shahadat while 4 were injured.

According to ISPR, consolidation and search operation continues at Kabbal in Swat.

One security forces personnel embraced Shahadat and three were injured in exchange of fire with terrorists in Kabbal.

One security forces personnel was injured due to miscreants fire at Kalla Kalle.

Consolidation and search operation is being carried out in Godhand Banda and Arkot Qila

Consolidation of positions is being carried out at Chuprial and road Wainai – Sijbant has been opened. Security forces consolidated positions at Ring contour and heights east of Chuprial. Huge cache of arms and ammunition has been recovered from tunnels.

Cordon and search operation is being carried out at Loe Namal and Kuz Shaur.

Cordon and search operation is being conducted in Matta. House to house search is being carried out.

Security forces recovered 4 IEDs during picqueting between Kuz Durshkhela and Sambat

Two trucks load of relief goods were distributed amongst the scattered IDPs of Mardan. These IDPs contacted Special Support Group through Help Line.

Two hundred IDPs families have been shifted from Besham to Kalam.

IDPs of Kalam are requested to report Besham. Security Forces have made arrangements for transportation to Kalam.
